Our body in its entirety is also called an organism. It consists of various organ systems, each of which comprises a number of organs, the functions of which complement one another.
Each of the organ systems has certain tasks assigned to it. The body systems work closely with each other in order to maintain a healthy balance. This is evident in the human body diagrams contained in the Human 3D software.
All of the body's systems are identical in men and women with the exception of the reproductive system.
An outline of the human body includes the following organ systems:
- The skeletal system including cartilage, joints and ligaments
- The musculature with the skeletal musculature and the heart muscle
- The respiratory system with the upper and lower airways
- The cardiovascular system with the heart and blood vessels
- The lymphatic system with the lymph nodes, spleen and thymus gland
- The digestive system including everything from the mouth to the intestine
- The endocrine system with the thyroid gland and sexual glands
- The nervous system with the brain, nerves and organs of sense
- The excretory system with the urinary tract and kidneys
- The reproductive system comprising the genital organs and the reproductive process up to and including birth.
A number of other organs not listed in this human body outline individually play decisive roles. The most important basic component of all these organs and organ systems is the cell, the smallest unit in the body. Cells can move, reproduce, grow, possess a metabolism of their own and register and convey external stimuli. These characteristics qualify them as living organisms.
